Fire Door and Maintenance Operative
Southend-on-Sea, Essex
As we continue to grow, we seek passionate and driven individuals to join our friendly team.
We are looking for a skilled Fire Door and Maintenance Operative to cover our nationwide portfolio of properties, carrying out routine inspections of fire doors in flats and communal areas, ensuring they meet current UK fire and building safety regulations.
You will also support wider building maintenance tasks to help keep properties safe, secure, and well maintained.
Key responsibilities:
- Routine Fire Door inspections
- Compliance assessments
- Generating reports
- Inspecting and troubleshooting maintenance issues proactively
- Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with health and safety guidelines
In addition, you will be required to conduct:
- Minor electrical repairs (e.g., changing light fittings, replacing sockets)
- Basic plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks and unblocking drains
- General carpentry, including repairing doors, locks, and skirting boards
- Painting and decorating communal areas as needed
- Basic plastering, filling cracks or holes in walls
- General repairs and upkeep of the buildings

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to regularly work at weekends when required
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight when required
- Professional and friendly approach at all times
- Adherence to health and safety procedures
- Initiative in identifying and addressing maintenance issues
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual tasks
- Willingness to travel to different locations nationwide
- A full, clean driving licence (essential for the role)
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience in maintenance, handyman work, or a similar role (preferred)
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs
- Knowledge of Building and Fire Safety regulations

Job Location: On the road
Hours: 42.5 hours per week, worked across five days within a seven-day period.
Salary: Competitive with an annual review
Annual leave: 20 days plus bank holidays
