Herd in The City

Herd In The City: Sponsoring a ton of family fun

From mid-July, Southend, Shoeburyness and Leigh will be brought to life by a herd of beautifully decorated elephant sculptures. We’re thrilled to be part of this outdoor art trail, raising vital funds for Havens Hospices’ specialist palliative care.

All ears? Great! Following the success of the Hares About Town trail in 2021, Havens Hospices is teaming up with Wild in Art, bringing unforgettable public art to the city of Southend this summer. As a business with our headquarters in the area, we’re delighted to support the charity’s cultural event once again.

The sculptures we’re sponsoring

Gateway Group couldn’t resist sponsoring ‘Sharman the Starman’ by designer Catherine Ullo. Associated Insurance Services picked ‘Jumbo Oak’ by local artist, Michelle Sutton.

Look out for these, and lots more, elephant sculptures if you’re local, or fancy a trip to the seaside! The free, family-friendly trail runs for seven weeks from Friday 14 July to Monday 4 September. You’ll be able to support Havens Hospices – a truly great cause – by purchasing a map, downloading the charity’s special app or getting involved in fundraising activities. It’s going to be mammoth!

Rental on the rise

Property insights: Rents continue to rise nationwide

House price growth may be slowing, but rents look set to continue to increase. Property experts generally agree on growth estimates of around 4–5% annually.

Property website, Zoopla, reports that the average rents for new-lets have risen the most, by 11.1% in the last 12 months. Earnings have increased by 6.7%.

Demand for rental homes remains 10% higher than last year, driven by four key factors:

  • the strength in the job market
  • resulting high economic immigration
  • a rapid increase in oversees university students
  • a static supply of rental homes.

The other property website, Rightmove, points out that the first quarter of 2023 marked the 13th consecutive three-month period where asking rents on new properties to let had risen. This run stretches back to the end of 2019.
